Early Admission to most programs is offered to qualified high school students before final grades are available. A major advantage in being awarded Early Admission is that you will be eligible to register in fall courses as early as April.
Start by applying online. Once you have submitted your application, you will receive an important email on how to access and track the progress of your application in Bear Tracks.
Early Admission is available for current high school students programs applying to the following faculties:
- Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences
- Arts
- Augustana
- Education
- Engineering
- Native Studies
- Nursing
- Physical Education and Recreation
- Campus Saint-Jean
- Science
What do I need to do to be considered for Early Admission?
- Start by submitting your Application for Admission.
- On the application under 'Academic History', enter all your Grade 12 courses. Be sure to include all Grade 12 courses you may have already taken, are currently taking, or that you plan to take in the second term.
- Provide all your final grades in any completed Grade 12 courses and any interim or midterm grades.
- Have final or midterm grades in at least 2 of the 5 required courses for your program and we will consider you for Early Admission.
What if I do not have interim or final Grade 12 grades to report when I apply for admission?
- If you do not have sufficient grades at the time of your application you may provide additional information to us in an email to chat@ualberta.ca.
- Your email must contain:
- all your Grade 12 courses;
- all midterm or final grades;
- courses to be taken in the second term; and
- your full name, University Student ID number, and it must be sent from your UAlberta email account.
When will I hear if I have Early Admission?
- We will start assessing for Early Admission beginning in October.
- After you apply, check Bear Tracks regularly.
- If you are not immediately eligible for Early Admission you will be notified.
- We will continue to reassess your file each time you submit new documentation, until July 1.
- Note: If you are not immediately eligible for Early Admission to your first priority program, we will automatically assess your eligibility for Early Admission to your next program choice. See Alternative Program Consideration.
What do I have to do after I receive Early Admission?
- Check your 'To Do List' on Bear Tracks to view all items required to complete your application.
- Arrange for your official transcripts, due August 1, to be sent directly from the issuing institution once final results are available.
- Alberta High School students: Through ApplyAlberta, the University is able to obtain your Alberta High School transcript on your behalf. This will be tracked in Bear Tracks.
When will I receive Final Admission?
- Upon receipt of your final grades, we will ensure that you have met the competitive average for your first priority program as well as any programs you may have received Early Admission to and confirm final admission.
- You must meet the conditions that will be outlined in your Early Admission offer letter, including submitting your final transcripts and any additional documentation (be sure to check Bear Tracks to view all items required to complete your application).
